Slipcovers

used to protect furniture from everyday use and when company arrived, they came off. However, slipcovers today are making a fashion statement all their own and have become one of the fastest, most affordable ways to change the look of a room.

In the days when slipcovers first came into vogue, they were strictly utilitarian. Now they are used because it's a lot cheaper to slipcover a sofa than to reupholster it.
There's no sacrificing style just to save money. Even a plush, custom-made velvet slipcover is affordable so consider a second style with the money saved to change your decor several times a year.

Slipcovers generally come in two categories--structured and unstructured. They can look casual by tying them on and gathering the fabric around the bottom or more tailored (figure A).

100 percent cotton is still the most popular fabric choice for slipcovers, but others like damask are gaining ground as it adds formality to a room. One of the newest fabrics is actually faux-leather. Cover an ottoman to match and add throw pillows in different fabrics to complete the look

Ready-made slipcovers are designed to cover almost any shape of loveseat, sofa or chair.
With the versatility they offer and the choices available, consider using slipcovers in places like the dining room. They're cost efficient and easy to wash and replace. Plus, they provide a whole new look and feel to what you've been living with

Slipcovers allow you to use mismatched pieces to create cohesive room settings.
